Acetylene – for Industrial or for Laboratory Use
A mainstay in metal fabrication, acetylene is available from MATHESON in a number of cylinder sizes, as well as multi-packs (MicroBulk) and bulk trailers. MATHESON also supplies related accessories, torches, hose, and complete outfits. Acetylene is also essential for laboratory applications such as atomic absorption spectroscopy. Its unique properties and hot flame make it an ideal choice in a number of industrial and manufacturing applications, from polyethylene manufacturing to carburizing to vitamin production.
In addition to individual cylinders, palleted MicroBulk packs are available with the cylinders and manifold pre-assembled in a forklift-ready cradle. Because some applications require high usage and/or uninterrupted supply, trailer mounted bulk acetylene supply can also be arranged.
For laboratory use and other high purity requirements, high purity gas is available; as are two-component and multi-component mixtures in cylinders.
Supply Options – Cylinder, MicroBulk, Bulk
In order to serve a broad range of applications and user requirements, MATHESON offers delivery in bulk (manifolded trailer load), MicroBulk (pallet-ready multipacks), and single cylinders of various sizes. Read more >>

Related Industries and Applications
Welding and Metal Fabrication – acetylene is the hottest-burning common fuel gas. As a result, air-fuel and oxy-fuel torch configurations are found in common use for welding, cutting, heating, brazing, and soldering. Read more>>
Labortory Use – the preferred fuel gas for flame AAS (atomic absorption spectroscopy).
Chemical Synthesis – because of its high reactivity, acetylene is useful for the manufacture of vitamins, pharmaceuticals, intermediates for nitrile rubbers, acrylic fibers, insecticides, food flavorings, cosmetics, perfumes and solvents.
Mold Release – acetylene releases large amounts of carbon when carburized to lubricate glass molds effectively for easy release.
Vacuum Carburizing – pure gas and gas mixtures have become a preferred choice for use in the vacuum carburizing process.
Flame Spray – this process uses the basic principles of a welding torch with the addition of a high velocity air stream to propel molten particles onto a substrate.
